Buzz on B-cycle

The bike sharing program recently turned one and has expanded to 23 stations and about 230 bikes. KENS5.com gives us the full details about the private donation San Antonio B-cycle received.

"Ken and Kim Ciolli were announced as the private donors at Tuesday's press conference. Ciolli said he wants the bike share program to thrive in a city like San Antonio because he believes it will promote a more active lifestyle."

Joining San Antonio B-cycle, Houston B-cycle will be the second B-cycle system in Texas. It is set to launch next week with three stations and 18 bikes.

Denver B-cycle launched two years ago on Earth Day 2010. The ridership and amount of gas saved has been increasing ever since. "Riders logged more than 431,817 miles in 2011, a nearly 97 percent increase over 2010, said Denver Bike Sharing executive director Parry Burnap." The program has high hopes for 2012 and the many years to come.

Yesterday, April 1, Madison B-cycle launched its second season. With help from volunteers, bikes were ridden out to the various stations scattered throughout the city. Expansion is planned for this summer. This article from The Wisconsin State Journal has further information.
